SHOWS AND RITES IN THE PARK

Along a route that starts at the foot of the Murgia and up the hill between maquis and forests, lies the shrine of St. Biagio, nestled in a gorge of the Murgia escarpment which dominates the plain of ancient olive grove. The origins of the church-crypt, date back to the twelfth century. The first inhabitants of the settlement were some Oblates Basilian that obtained by the bishops of Ostuni the surrounding land, livestock and financial support to undertake their activities.

The sanctuary of St. Oronzo, situated in a valley in the Murgia territory, was erected in the second half of the seventeenth century, in front of the cave where the saint is believed to have found refuge. To the left of the church there is a stairway leading to a source of water considered miraculous. The feast is celebrated on August, from 24 to 27.

From the highway SS 16 Adriatica Fasano-Ostuni you can reach the sanctuary of Santa Maria d'Agnano, which has the remains of a Messapian settlement. Inside you can find the cave where the bones of the Gestante di Ostuni (Pregnant woman of Ostuni) were found, dating back to 29,000 years ago and now preserved in the Museum of Pre-classic Civilization in the historical center of Ostuni.

Santa Maria di Pozzo Faceto, or Our Lady of the Well, is the name of an ancient image of the Virgin which, along with St. John the Baptist, is worshiped as the protector of Fasano. The name is due to the discovery of the sacred image during the refurbishment of the well: painted on a rocky wall, it was detached and brought to the surface; in order to guard the image, a chapel was built whose originl dates back to the XI-XII centuries. The icon is still visible on the main altar of the sanctuary; also the well where the discovery took place exists and is visible inside the church, near the entrance. The feast is celebrated on June, 24.
